Family Help Program

Through this program Pastors children are provided with financial support for their education. It was given only up to school final level and now they have agreed to extend this support to college level. The total number of children under this program was 160 in 2004. over the years it came down to 66 since the children complete their studies and leave the program. Periodical representations to increase the number was not permitted by World Help.. Finally this year they agreed after 8 years and increased to 160. Now the number of beneficiaries under the program is 115.

Medical Centers

ECI is maintaining 2 medical centers at Tondiarpet and Vyasarpadi for the benefit of the poor living in slums around those centers.. These centers are looked after by two qualified nurses. The nurses in addition to attending their duty in the center, make periodical visits to the slums and assist the people in areas such as child care, nutrition, health care and family planning.

Free Medical Camps

Whenever support is given by sponsors or local churches free medical camps are conducted. Our nurses join with the doctors specially called for this purpose and render the medical service. We conducted a free medical camp at a village called Panaiyur, near Periyapalayam, a Hindu pilgrim center, with assistance from ECC. Another medical camp was conducted in the Lydia women’s fellowship conference  at Vanagaram.

Mobile Clinic

ECI mobile clinic was led by Mrs. Ruth Duraisamy, along with the two nurses conducted the Mobile clinic in 5 Churches continuously. At an average of 35 to 50 patients were treated every day in our mobile clinic. Now this program is kept in abeyance since Mrs.RuthDuraisamy has gone for higher studies.

Sewing Training Centers

In order to provide job opportunity to women and provide the much needed income generation, ECI in select churches in Chennai and Vijayawada started the sewing Training centers. Many unemployed poor women got trained and they were also gifted with a sewing machine to enable them to earn their livelihood.

Good Samaritan Water Supply

In spite augmenting water supply to the Chennai city, the slum area suffers a lot owing to drinking water shortage. ECI started the Good Samaritan Water supply scheme and supplies water to the dwellers and nearby schools and orphanages. ECI is maintaining a water tanker for this purpose.

Jesus Well

This is a very popular scheme and it is funded by World Help. Under this scheme in a place very near to a church wells were dug and pump sets and over heads tanks were built. The people in that area draw water from this source without any discrimination. Because of this facility many non-Christians living in this area come to know the love of Jesus.

Manna Water Supply

In our congregation many youth are without any job and in order to make them earn their livelihood, this scheme was introduced. Our Bishop has named it as “ Manna Water Supply”. Under this scheme the selected unemployed youth is given a tricycle and 50 cans and he is expected to carry out the water supply business and earn his living. In the follow up, it is understood all are doing good business and one person has moved out of Chennai.
